American Egret
The studies for this group were made in South Carolina in May, 1907, by Dr. Frank M. Chapman. The lacelike aigrette feathers were much hunted by commercial plume hunters in that era. Dr. Chapman was a prime mover in putting an end to the plume traffic, and today the Common or Great Egret is once again a widespread species in the warmer parts of the world.
